Recapitulation
African States and their legal experts and scholars have made an important contribution to the work and operation UN human rights bodies. In this context, they have succeeded to inject some innovative regional concepts and norms in the UN human rights Law. This study examines and evaluates the place or the role of African human rights traditions and norms in this regard. It is divided into two parts. The first part examines the foundations, content and scope of African human rights traditions, as well as their implementing mechanisms. The second part looks at the identification of principles and mechanisms inherited by contemporary African human rights mechanisms from these traditions and their impact on the codification and progressive development of the UN human rights Law. Beyond the identification of African human rights traditions having contributed to the development of the UN human rights norms, the study will also look at how the relevant bodies and agencies of the United Nations channelled these norms in their programmes and activities.
